The Association of Korean Independent Film &
Video (Association) made a formal proposal to
the Korea Film Commission (Commission)
regarding the building of exclusive theaters for
independent films and the establishment of a
media center. The Commission accepted the proposal, and a joint committee
called the 'Independent Film Policy Consultative Committee' was formed in
August
2000.
The Committee was in charge of detailed consultation and preparation for the
Media Center, undertaking a commissioned research project and holding
several public hearings.
Finally, the Commission and Association officially signed a
'consignment contract', and the first executive committee
meeting for the establishment of the
Construction of the Center and purchase of equipment began in January 2002, and the historic opening of MediACT was on May 9, 2002.
